2007 Idaho Star Party

"I've been everywhere, man, I've been everywhere."
Practically, anyway. Idaho is a long, long, long way from Possum Swamp, and I was curious to see what the amateurs of the Boise Astronomical Society would be like. Answer? As friendly and knowledgeable and just downright nice as this old boy coulda wished for!

Great weather, great folks, and a field full of scopes. What more can an astronomy-crazy hillbilly ask for?

Dark skies may be the main thing, but they ain't the only thing. The ISP's location at Bruneau Dunes state park featured outstanding facilities including this "dome" housing a 25-inch scope, and a beautiful classroom building that was great for Rod's presentations.

I don't care if they are from Possum Swamp or way up yonder in Potato Country, one thing ALL amateurs like is astro-stuff!

The dealer lineup included Teton Telescope, run by Unk's good buddy Mark Rieck--this is an up-and-coming outfit to watch, folks.

You want way-out-west scenery? ISP had that, too.

But it all comes down to the observin'...and man was it good. This shot of Venus and the Moon and a beautiful western dawn was snapped with Unk's point 'n shoot after a long night of deep sky cruisin'!
